Questions
Heating and air in a manufactured home
Your home
Do you work on single-wides and double-wides?
Yes, and on the additions built onto them. We work only on manufactured and mobile homes, so the parts and the ducts are what we know best.
Can any furnace go in a manufactured home?
No. The equipment has to be made and listed for a manufactured home, and the ducts and the space it sits in are different from a house. We use the right unit and tell you its model in writing.
Where do I find my home's data plate?
It is often inside a kitchen cabinet or a closet. Text us a photo of it with the furnace nameplate, and we can tell you what the home was built for before we come out.
What is a crossover duct?
In a double-wide, it is the duct under the floor that carries air from the furnace side to the other half of the home. When it comes loose or tears, one side of the house goes cold or hot.
Prices
What does a job’s price cover?
It covers the part, the labor and a test run for that job. If your unit needs a different part, we tell you the new price before we start, and you can say no.
What if I say no after the diagnostic visit?
You owe the visit fee and nothing more. If you say yes, the fee is credited toward the repair.
Do you quote a new furnace or air conditioner?
Yes, in writing, after we check the data plate and the ducts. The quote names the model and says what the permit covers. We don't put a flat price on a replacement, because the home decides it.
Safety
Should I have a carbon monoxide alarm?
Yes, on every floor with a bedroom. If it sounds, get everyone outside and call 911 before you call us.
How often should I have the furnace checked?
Once a year, in the fall, before you need the heat. The check includes a carbon monoxide reading at the vent and in the home.
Replacing a unit
Do I need a permit to replace a unit?
Often, yes. The written price says whether the permit is part of it. The owner confirms what the city requires.
